Do You Ever Feel Alone? It Could be the Subject/Object Split

The Subject/Object Split Could be Why You Feel Alone

There is a classical debate in modern physics about the subject/object split.  There is a fundamental split between how you perceive things happening outside yourself (object) versus your perception of yourself (subject).

You may not understand every aspect of yourself, but you do know you exist as a conscious entity.  The debate is whether the subject or the object directs the final outcome of experience.

Do you create the world or does the world create you?

At its root, the subject/object split is the cause of your feeling mentally separated from everyone else.

The split between your perception of yourself and your perception of everything else creates the perception of your own individuality.

These feeling of aloneness and separation cause us to seek out the comfort of others.  When we find others who perceive the world the same way we do, we feel included in something bigger than ourselves.

crystal worldThis gives us comfort, because we’ve never been prepared or taught to spend time alone, at least in most Western cultures.

According to my research and personal interviews, most of us can’t be alone without feeling alone.  Others interviewed were simply afraid to be alone.  This fear drives us to find others who are like us and often we allow them to guide us.

This can evolve into a ‘mob mentality’ where you are told what to think and believe, so you slowly fall prey to your surroundings.

It’s at this point that you have given up taking pictures of the world and you’re merely receiving pictures of the world.

If you find yourself drawn only toward those people, whose view of the world matches our own, you limit your exposure.

You’re then operating largely out of habit, so you perpetuate your current picture of life instead of improving or broadening it.  This may or may not be a good thing, as you will soon discover.

It’s crucially important to learn who you are and to contemplate and create your thoughts and beliefs from within, not from without.
