3 Techniques for Memorizing Scripts – Part 3 – My Simple Technique
Both of the previous memorization techniques posted required an image-based association method to be used.
These methods require too much mental effort for me. Memorizing the text is bad enough, so why add all those images as well? My method is more of a pure script memorization methodology.
It’s a very simple technique.
I create a trail of key words in the script; each key word acting as a prompt to the next section’s keyword, reminding me to recall the test between them.
To use the same example for a third time, “Thank you for attending my book signing. Without an audience, an author is nothing. My book requires you to become a part of it because it’s about your mind.”
My process on paper would look like the following:
‘Thank you for, attending my book signing. Without an audience, an author is nothing. My book requires you to become a part of it because it’s about your mind.’
This internal, mental process is very difficult to elaborate, but it works for me.
I will also add, this ability grows with practice, and I’m now able to memorize and recall three and four sentence blurbs quite easily after three years of practicing this technique.
Lastly, different people learn in different ways.
But it has been proven that writing something down increases your ability to recall it, so when I have a really important speaking event, I will take the time to hand write what I’ve previously typed or thought through several times.
Then I practice out loud!
And I practice and I practice, until I have it down absolutely pat. Because i know no matter how well i can do it in my living room, I’ll still probably freeze or stumble at least once. So the better I am to my self, the better I’ll be in front of an audience.
One last tip, is to ask if you can get access to the venue before the event, and go practice on the actual stage you’ll be speaking on. I found this gives me so much more self confidence, as I’m better grounded when walking out on stage.
So use these tips on memorizing scripts to improve you over-all ability to use the most powerful part of yourself- your mind!
So focus your mind, and it will grow in strength and ability…
